Welcome to three65!
Learning and growing happens 365 days a year, beyond four walls, everywhere and all the time. Why three65? Because we all need 365 degrees of community. Because we are surrounded by life and exploration and opportunity. Because we need connection to ourselves. And to each other.
three65 will provide a mentor-rich environment for kids and teens who choose to learn outside the traditional school environment, and who wish to follow their own path within a community of other learners. three65 youth and children will meet up weekly to work with a SelfDesign mentor and inspired local mentors to create their own learning opportunities, projects, workshops, or experiences -- our goal is to provide resources and support, so we can maximize their ability to connect to whatever they are most passionate about. three65 is about youth and kids designing their own community, their own learning, and their own lives.
There is also an additional option called EOS for youth who are interested in working towards a high school diploma: youth who participate in the EOS program work with a SelfDesign mentor to co-create their high school learning years, and their involvement in any three65 collaborative projects or workshops would count towards their diploma.
Will you come and envision with us? What does your dream learning community look like? Share your thoughts with us as we bring into being the most delicious of all dreams, a dream of a place that shatters the stereotypes about how young people should spend their days, and design their own lives and learning!
Our Mission: "To create a wide open protected space for our youth, in which they can pursue their collective interests and passions and embark on exciting projects, supported by the guidance of mentors and a dedicated community of parents."

Jen
Jennifer McRae-King is mother to three amazing, unique, and inspiring girls (Meguire 11, Piper-Prairie 6 and Poet 3). There is never a dull moment as she balances SelfDesigning with the girls and her roles as an occupational therapist, doula, Birthing From Within® childbirth educator and owner/designer of gurumama.
At the top of Jennifer’s favourite things list are: hearing, “Just one more chapter, please?”, while reading aloud to the gaggle all cuddled up on the couch, watching the girls do what they truly love (riding, dancing, crafting, exploring nature, being goofy...), and bearing witness to the birth of new skills that develop naturally and easily when we are simply patient enough to just wait for a child to be ready!

Dulcy
Dulcy, coming from a Montessori background, has always had a desire to homeschool her kids. After teaching in the school where her daughters were enrolled, she realized she needed to uncage her kids and herself, fly free as birds and follow their own path. She has been homeschooling her youngest ever since (Grade 2 to grade 7 currently), and supporting her oldest with a combination of home learning (4 years) and high school classes, tailored to her needs and desires (currently grade 11).
Three65, and working with SelfDesign, are a dream come true for Dulcy! All her life, she has been looking to free youth and let them take flight - their flight into their future!

Sandy
Sandy is a homeschooler of two teens and a tween who continually inspire and surprise her. She and her family love exploring learning and life, travelling to far-flung places (when possible), and live slow (also when possible!), juicy, at times chaotic, and imperfect lives... but living as brightly and best they can in every moment!
Sandy has worked closely with SelfDesign for 10 years, and has a dream to create connections between learners, mentors, and families in Winnipeg.

A Year And A Half Of Transformation...
We have continued our SelfDesign Learning Journey (the philosophy is to cultivate the learner’s interests. Much of the learning is self-initiated and self-propelled) as a home schooling family and we continue to connect with our Self Design Community on a monthly basis (Learning Circle).
As our journey moves on, we experience our own sort of “metamorphosis.” I, as mother and facilitator of learning, constantly search my soul in putting aside my own judgments and biases and seek to discover Rebekah’s path for education and put her best interests first.
We are looking forward to phase 2 of SelfDesign….three65. Rebekah can’t wait until she has peers to learn with in a similar way she does. She is dreaming of science clubs and working with others as a team and appreciating their points of view!
Observation for learning:
“People don’t understand Self Design. They question me about taking tests. They just don’t get that I’m learning all the time and that the WORLD is my classroom...that I learn what I need to and way more than kids in traditional school.”
Rebekah—age 12

Being a part of the Winnipeg SelfDesign Learning Circle felt like a perfect fit right from the start. I look forward to our monthly meetings with our intimate group of like minded families to learn and grow together while we support our children and help them self design their lives.
Our family's regular Skype meetings with Michael, our learning consultant, has given us immeasurable support as he always highlights the beauty in the mundane. He has taught me to observe for learning in ways I didn't notice before by keeping an O4L (observing for learning) journal.
I love this philosophy because it allows all children regardless of their abilities and skill level to grow into who they truly are, to discover and explore their God given gifts and passions and to nurture and follow them. Our SelfDesign Learning Circle has been a blessing to our family and I look forward to three65 to provide opportunities for my children to find community with other children sharing a similar journey.

Kat and Andy
When we first met our children, we knew that they had come to us as wise teachers. Trusting our children and protecting their right to learn in their own unique way, on their own time, has been a big part of our growth as parents. Following our passions individually, and as a family, is what SelfDesign means for us.
Whether it is digging in the dirt, eating delicious weeds, canoeing, hunting, crafting, inventing, reading, skiing, dancing, making fires, working with wool, or celebrating, celebrating, celebrating! -- we feel blessed each day to be on this beautiful chaotic quest for life that is our family's learning journey.
